Amb. Ernest Rwamucyo, yesterday, presented his letters of credence to the President of Bangladesh, Abdul Hamid.

During the ceremony at Banghabhaban, the official residence of the President of Bangladesh, Rwamucyo reiterated his commitment to work hard during his tour of duty to further strengthen the friendly relations and cooperation that exists between Rwanda and Bangladesh, according to a statement from Rwanda’s high commission in India.

Rwamucyo, who is resident in New Dehli, is also accredited to Sri Lanka.

He highlighted Rwanda’s interest to promote bilateral cooperation in trade and investment, textile and jute industry development and exchange of experience, training, and capacity development in international peacekeeping.

Bangladesh is one of the world leaders in textile industry and is the largest contributor to United Nations peace keeping operations, with a long experience in UN Peacekeeping.

Rwanda, which has grown to be the fifth largest troop contributing country to UN peacekeeping missions, "would benefit from Bangladesh’s long experience and training infrastructure and resources,” reads the statement.

"The President of Bangladesh expressed his country’s commitment to further strengthen cooperation with Rwanda for the mutual benefit of the two countries,” the statement adds.

In 2012, Rwanda and Bangladesh signed a memorandum of understanding to boost bilateral trade relations.

In Bangladesh, Rwamucyo, accompanied by Joseph Kabakeza, First Counsellor at the Rwanda High Commission, also met with Shafquat Haider, Director of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the Manager of ESKAYEF Ltd, a major pharmaceutical manufacturing group in Bangladesh.

Rwamucyo is the second Rwandan envoy to be accredited to Bangladesh after Williams Nkurunziza, who is now the High Commissioner of Rwanda to the United Kingdom.
