Remera Buffaloes team captain Benjamin Makombe says his team are favourites to win this year’s rugby title with the league set to resume on Saturday after a two week festive season break.

The National Rugby League started on December 20 and only one match was played at the time. Huye based Grizzles beat Muhanga 14-10.

Buffaloes will start the defense of their title against new boys Thousand hills rugby club at Gatenga grounds.

"We need to be at our best to retain the trophy because all teams are keen to impress like we saw in the Sharks 7s and Lion de fer 10s. However, I am confident that we are favourites because we have a good balance in our squad which has a mixture of experience and youthful energy, qualities of a good rugby team,” the veteran fly half said.

Thousands hills is a youthful side that was formed last year by the former Rugby players with the sole purpose of identifying and nurturing raw talents at a young age.

The team is managed by Juma Adams Mugabo, the former national rugby team captain. The rugby league was put on hold last year due to financial constraints.
