AS Kigali women football club head coach Grace Nyinawumuntu has promoted four youngsters to the senior team for this year’s women national league.
The players, who were promoted from the AS Kigali junior team, include; 13-year-old Rose Umwali, Sifah Uwanyirigira (15), Liberata Nibagwire (14) as well as Margret Nyirumugisha (14).
Nyinawumuntu, who also doubles as the She-Amavubi head coach, said that the quartet deserve to be promoted to the senior team after performing well in last year’s Airtel Rising Star tournament.
"They were outstanding and I felt they deserve a shot at the senior team so that they start playing more competitive games and gain experience,” she said.
She added: "When you look at some of the best women teams in Africa and elsewhere in the world, you find that these countries have a well defined recruitment policy, which is talent identification in schools and nurturing them into big name players.”
