It was a red carpet affair at the highly publicised Vibe party as revellers ushered in the New Year at the Expo Grounds in Gikondo.
Right from the entrance, the décor and the lighting, it was obvious that the Vibe Party would turn out to be an exclusive event. Those who attended had their moment on the red carpet before the lights and cameras. Organised by East African Promoters (EAP), the event attracted Kigali’s crème de la crème.
The Rwf10, 000 entrance fee did not stop people from coming in large numbers to be part of the party which was graced by Tanzanian super star Diamond Platinumz and his new catch, Ugandan socialite, Zari Hussein.
The hosts of the evening Makeda Mahadeo and Remmy Lubega did not disappoint while DJs Focus, Afshon and Africano kept the audience entertained.
However, there was frustration as the long awaited guest of honour Diamond took too long to arrive. The ‘Number One’ singer arrived past 1am, accompanied by Zari and his entire Wasafi Crew.
Diamond and Zari engaged in some sort of public display of affection as they could not let go of each other. At around 2am, the Tanzanian singer hit the stage and performed only three songs to the chagrin of the fans that had waited for so long. The fireworks went off at around 2am instead of midnight.
Nevertheless, the red carpet event went well. According to the organisers, EAP, the event was not meant to be a musical event but rather a party for Rwandans to mix and mingle and end the year in style.
