Last week Fifa ranked Rwanda 68th in the world and 19th in Africa as well as the highest placed in the Cecafa region after toppling Uganda, now ranked 78thglobally. This is quite interesting but as Rwandans, are we satisfied with those rankings?
That will raise a lot of concerns and debate from some sections. I personally believe quite a lot has been done by the new coach and the management of Rwanda Football Federation (Ferwafa) to explain that sudden improvement in our ranking from 90th position to 68th, but there’s still a lot to be done.
We should not just seat comfortably and relax because the road ahead is still very long. Why can’t we be the first in the region? Why can’t we have a ticket to compete in the qualifiers of African Cup of Nations? The last time Rwanda featured was in 2004.
Indeed, the Briton has added life in the national team with the inclusion of many young players who still have a lot to prove in their career. These young players should not be wasted—they should be put to use and make the country proud.
