Editor,
Refer to the story, "Rwandan to be charged for Texas car crash death” (The New Times, December 16).
Going by the parent account that the driver was drunk, and given the court charges, it’s up to justice to run its course. However, he is still Rwandan and deserves our support because in a way his life too is changed forever albeit through poor choices.
Many families are hurt in this, but I believe his family and he too is hurting too despite anger at the death of such a young life.
I hope the Rwanda Embassy in the US will continue supporting both him and the victims; after all, many of us have made wrong decisions in life—it’s just our choices did not end up in a physical prison.
I hope his family will stand by him. He needs them most at this time. We have to support our youth even when they don’t make the best of choices and help them to rebuild again.
