Rallye des Mille Collines has been stopped abruptly after Rwandan driver Claude Kwizera and his navigator Christophe Dusquene crashed their car in section 2 in Gakenke, Eastern Province.

The Subaru Impreza N12 skidded off the road and hit a tree directly impacting on Dusquene, who was in the right seat and is currently in critical condition but was rushed to Gahini hospital where he is undergoing treatment.

The course director Eric Nzamwita told Times Sport that, "We are still waiting for a report from the doctors at the Gahini hospital as well as the rally doctors.”

According to reports, the Belgian has suffered internal bleeding caused by severe injuries to his body.

Kwizera suffered injuries to his right shoulder and is also undergoing treatment at the same hospital.

Kwizera, who has 100 points on the National Rally Championships standings, was hopeful that he would win today’s race that would see him clinch the national title for the first time since he started his rally career in 2005.

He was facing tight competition from table leader Valery Bukera from Burundi who has 113 points.

Four-time national champion Davite Giancarlo (3:43) won yesterday’s super stage with Bukera coming second after posting 3:52. Kwizera came on sixth position in 4:14.
