Etincelles, who were expected to host Musanze FC at in Rubavu on Tuesday, October 10, saw their start to the season go from bad to worse when match officials led by centre referee Ibrahim Ugirasebuja decided to award three points in favor of the visitors after waiting for an ambulance on-site for 23 minutes in vain.
The match was supposed to start at 3:00 pm but match officials delayed for 15 minutes waiting for the Rubavu-based side to bring the ambulance to no avail.
They had to wait for another eight minutes but the club could not bring the medical van in due time leaving the match called off even before the kickoff.
The absence of an ambulance raised concerns about player safety and the ability to provide immediate medical attention in case of injuries.
It is a standard protocol to have a medical support readily available during matches, ensuring the well-being of the players and the league match officials deemed it necessary to enforce the rules and regulations that govern the matches, which include having proper medical support in place.
Times Sport understand that no official from Etincelles was present at the stadium in the event of the forfeit.
The last time a team was forfeited in Rwanda Premiere League was in 2018, when Kiyovu Sports forfeited their league match against Kirehe FC.
Times Sport tried to reach out to the Etincelles officials for a comment on but no one responded.
Etincelles currently sit bottom of the league table with three points while Musanze lead the table with 13 points.
