The German International Corporation (GIZ) has joined hands with Techwomen Rwanda in an initiative aimed at encouraging corporate companies to mentor girls interest in Information and Communication Technology (ICT)-related courses and careers.
They argued that this is important as it will help sharpen the skills of girls in ICT and make them more competitive. Angel Bisamaza, an ICT expert and a beneficiary of the programme, said mentorship gives the girls exposure and opportunities as far as ICT is concerned.
"With that, the girls would be able to know which type of career choices to pursue. It will also inspire other girls to pursue careers in ICT,” she said over the weekend.
Rwanda Development Board, Airtel Rwanda, Axiom Network and Airtel Rwanda are some of the corporate firms that are providing mentorship to some of the selected girls interested in ICT. During the programme, experts (mentors) share knowledge and expertise in the science, technology, engineering and maths with the young girls, Bisamaza said.
