Idris Sultan, Tanzania’s representative in Big Brother Africa Hotshots emerged the winner of the ninth edition of the reality TV show after 63 days in the house.

The 21 year old beamed with an ear-to-ear smile, sunk on all fours to thank God after the show presenter IK announced that he had won the ultimate prize of $300, 000.

Self-proclaimed ‘Loverman’Idris piped Nigeria’s Tayo to the grand prize after bagging the biggest number of votes of all the 8 remaining housemates.

The youthful comic and aspiring actor managed to beat off stiff competition from the Nigerian, another Hotshot who had made the final two list but as it turns out, Idris’ lucky star shone brighter than his thus coming out on top on a tense evening.

The finale evening kicked off with Biggie evicting a couple at a time, of the remaining 8 finalists, with Butterphly and Ma’m Bea getting out first, followed by Sipe and JJ.

After a musical break, Nhlanhla and Macky2 followed, leaving Tayo and Idris to face off for the money. It turned out that majority of the finalists IK interviewed fancied Idris or Macky 2 for the money.

Having made the top two, Biggie called Idris and Tayo to the Diary room where they had their very last Diary as Hotshots final two during which Biggie wished them the very best of luck and urged them to continue playing their game even on the outside.

Idris received five country votes from Kenya, Namibia, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda.

Shortly after leaving the Diary room, they were Chauffeur-driven in a Limo to the Live Show stage and had a red carpet walk greeting fans and invited guests.

Host IK had a chat with the duo on what they would use the money for, with Tayo saying that he would pay his tithe and then pay bride price for the woman who came into his life and change it—the mother of his new born child. That was never to be however.

Idris on the other hand said that since Africa would have given him the money, he would return the money to Africa, but ‘not in cash’, he was quick to add, noting that he would use it for developmental projects.

An emotional Tayo could not help but congratulate Idris, having been so close yet so far, thanks to the tyranny of numbers.

Tayo (L) and Idris were the finalists

As the housemates hugged and congratulated Idris, the 9th edition of Big Brother Africa manifested itself as one of the most competitive and unpredictable after 63 days of sheer entertainment and intrigue.

Congratulations are in order for the Tanzanian lad

How Africa voted
