Police Coach Andre Cassa Mbungo will be keen on his team retaining the Ombudsman Cup trophy when his side takes on AS Kigali at Amahoro stadium this afternoon; however he faces a stern test from former Amavubi coach Eric Nshimiyimana.

Police defeated Rayon Sports 2-1 yesterday to reach the final while AS Kigali saw off APR 3-1 on penalties.

"We want to retain the trophy and we shall do everything it takes to do so. We played extremely well today and we are getting back our confidence,” Mbungo said.

Police striker Jimmy Mbaraga put his side in front on the 15th minute before Blues’ defender Faustin Usengimana equalized in the 28th minute.

Innocent Habyarimana sealed triumph for the law enforcers after finding the back of the net in the 84th minute to guide Police into the final of the competition that was organized to address the ills of corruption in the country.

In the first game of the day, APR took an early lead against AS Kigali through a Yannick Mukunzi goal in the first half before right back Michel Rusheshangoga headed into the wrong net past his teammate Olivier Kwizera to level the tie thereby sending the game to penalties.

Bodo Ndikumana, Rodriguez Murengezi and Jean Pierre Mabula converted from the spot and despite Ernest Sugira’s miss, AS Kigali went on to win 3-1.

AS Kigali’s Goalkeeper Shamiru Batte saved three penalties by Emery Bayisenge, Captain Ismael Nshutiyamagara and Djamal Mwiseneza and only Sibomana got one past him but it was not enough to guide the military side to the finals.

Despite a decorated playing career with APR and Amavubi, Eric Nshimiyimana has never won a trophy but is largely credited with taking a youthful Amavubi team to the 2009 Cecafa final while Cassa Mbungo won the 2013 Peace Cup with AS Kigali and also guided Police to 3rd place in the 2014 Cecafa club championship.
