RAYON SPORTS will be without the dependable trio of Captain Fuadi Ndayisenga, right back Karim Nizigiyimana and left back Abouba Sibomana when they take on Police FC this afternoon in the Ombudsman Cup at Amahoro stadium.
Ndayisenga is nursing an ankle injury while Burundian international Nizigiyimana and Sibomana are away on family commitments.
"We shall definitely miss their input. However, we shall use the available players as we aim at winning when we take on Police. They are the defending champions and we shall give them all the respect they deserve but victory is our target,” explained Sosthene Habimana, the Rayon Sports assistant coach.
Habimana has been in charge of the Blues since head coach Andy Magloire Mfutila embarked on a mission to get players in the Democratic Republic of Congo over the past week.
The Blues who are yet to win a game in the National Football League since the Congolese tactician took over less than a month ago, will be hoping to return to winning ways against the defending champions of the annual tournament.
Mfutila admits that he is fully aware of the challenge ahead, but he believes his players have prepared enough and this is a chance for the Blues to clinch the first trophy available this season.
Police stunned Rayon Sports 2-0 in a preseason friendly but Habimana was quick to point out that, "We had not yet gelled as a team which is different now. We know each other well and have been working hard as a team.”
Meanwhile, Police head Coach Andre Cassa Mbungo is keen on retaining the title and told Times Sport that, "Our target is to defend the title of course and we shall do anything to make sure that our dream comes true. It will not be easy but we have to do our best.”
In the other game, APR will take on AS Kigali with the latter seeking revenge against the army side that defeated them 2-1 in October in the National Football League.
AS Kigali head Coach Eric Nshimiyimana is looking forward to defeating his former employers. The winner of the tournament which is aimed at fighting the ills of corruption will walk away with Rwf3m while the runner-up will bag Rwf2m.
