The 17th edition of ‘La Tropicale Amissa Bongo’ cycling race which was due in Gabon from January 22-28, 2024 has been postponed to a later date, organisers have announced.

The decision, in agreement with the authorities, was, according to organisers, dictated by a "rethinking of the priorities for the coming months, in the context of the renewal of the institutions of the Republic of Gabon.”

Arguably Africa's biggest cycling race on the international calendar, La Tropicale Amissa Bongo has, since its creation, been attracting the best African cyclists and professionals of the highest professionals.

For the past 17 years, the UCI 2.1 event has showcased the performances of many African cyclists who are now taking part in the biggest events, such as the Tour de France.

The images of the race, broadcast around the world, have made it possible to showcase the exceptional beauty of Gabon's landscapes.

Rwanda won La Tropicale once in 2018 when Joseph Areruya beat the rest to the glory against all odds to become the first Rwandan cyclist to win the race with Team Rwanda.
