Coton Sport FC head coach Didier Gomez da Rosa has acknowledged that the experience he gained during his time with Rayon Sports boosted his professional career leading him to the success he is currently enjoying with the Cameroonian side.
Gomez engraved him name in Rayon Sports history after guiding the club to the 2012/13 league title after a nine year drought. He left the club immediately after.
The French national has since won a double (National League title and Coupe du Cameroun) with the Cameroonian side after joining them on a 2-year deal in January. He attributes the experience he got during his time with the Rwandan side club as the main factor behind that.
"I have grown with Coton but I was born with Rayon Sports, the club of my life, the club of my heart,” he said in response to an email from Times Sport.
"I learnt the pressure of trying to get results and taking tactical risks at a big club. The league triumph of 2013 with Rayon Sports gave me a lot of confidence in my coaching qualities and taught me about team management,” Gomez said adding that he experienced numerous tense emotions while at ‘Gikundiro’.
Gomez has not only enjoyed domestic success with Coton Sport but also guided the Cameroonian side to the semi-finals of the Caf Confederation tournament.
Coton Sport is currently ranked sixth on the continent.
The 45-year-old started his coaching career eight years ago after getting a UEFA A coaching license. He was recruited by Rayon sports in November, 2012 from French side AS Cannes’s B team.
