Godfrey Okoko guided Mukura Victory Sports to their first win of the season with a 3-2 victory against Amagaju on Sunday and later vowed that his target is to finish in the top half of the table.
The Huye-based side has languished in the bottom two since the start of the season.
The club sacked head coach Jean Baptiste Kayiranga last month and replaced him with Okoko from rivals Musanze FC.
What is remarkable about Mukura’s first win for the season is that they came from 2-0 down after Jean Pierre Muhindo (26th minutes) and Hakim Mutabazi (34th) had given Amagaju the lead.
But second half goals from Ombeni Mutekuluwa on the 60th and 67th minute pulled Mukura level before Berthe Dusange scored the winner on 78th minute.
Despite the win, Mukura remain second from bottom with six points (level with Etincelles); having lost five games, drawn three games. Promoted side Isonga FC is bottom with three points after nine rounds of matches.
Okoko said, "I am happy to win the game but we are struggling, which is not something good for a big team like Mukura, we are going to play every game as a final because we want to get back to our good old days.”
"I am thankful for my players, who have done all they can to win this match, we will do all we can for the next games because we need to finish at least in the top half than worrying about relegation,” he explained.
APR leads the table with 20 points, two ahead of second-placed Rayon Sports who are level with AS Kigali but the Blues have scored more goals.
