The Egypt women’s national sitting volleyball team will have a one-week long training camp in Rwanda next week. They will also play friendly matches against their Rwandan counterparts from November 23-30 at the NPC gymnasium at Amahoro stadium.
The delegation includes the Africa Para-volley Committee President Hayat Khattab, 13 players, two coaches and three officials.
"This camp will give both countries the opportunity to share sitting volleyball experiences among coaches and teams as they train together and play test matches every day of the camp, " explained Celestin Nzeyimana, the President of the Rwanda Paralympics Committee.
The Rwandan ladies are the reigning East African champions after their remarkable performance in August, this year, and will be using this camp to evaluate themselves ahead of the upcoming Rio 2016 Paralympic qualifiers that will be held in Nairobi, Kenya next year.
According to Nzeyimana, this camp will act as exposure for upcoming and talented players as NPC looks to build a foundation for continuity.
Kenyans failed to honour an invite to this camp due to financial constraints.
Khattab’s presence at the camp will be to see how far women with disability are progressing in preparation for the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games in which Africa has just one slot.
This will be the first time in history that an African side will compete in the women’s sitting volleyball event at the Paralympic Games.
