TODAY all roads lead to St. Joseph School grounds in Kicukiro for the launch of Kaami Arts inaugural children’s dance and drama festival starting at 9a.m.

Under the theme "Celebration of childhood through Art and design, the festival will also feature the official launch of Kaami Arts organisation at its premises in Kicukiro, near St. Joseph School. The event will be followed by street performances by the children as part of activities to mark the Universal Child Week.

Kaami Arts trains children in arts including music, dance, theatre and drumming, through its artistic education project which runs in different schools and centres.

Martine Umulisa, the co-founder for Kaami Arts, said the aim of the festival is to help children develop and tell their own stories through art

 "We have worked with these kids and want them to show their progress. Children are trained but it doesn’t stop there, they need to go on to create something and finally present it to the world,” she added. 

The objective of the event is to inspire, educate and entertain. Kaami Arts is an organisation founded in 2013 by a group of artists.

The organisation is behind projects like Urakunzwe Kibondo, a project about raising awareness of street children’s issues through the play entitled, My Story. The play has been performed in various schools across the country.
