President Paul Kagame has donated a Fuso Lorry to a coffee farmers cooperative (Cocamu), based in Musaza Sector, Kirehe District.

This was announced by Venantie Tugireyezu, the Minister in the Office of the President while on official visit to the district yesterday.

The President commended the farmers for working hard when he visited the district last week.

The farmers had requested the President to send a delegation to join them as they celebrated the Rwf80 million dividends they made last season. That’s the delegation that Tugireyezu was leading yesterday.

At the ceremony supervised by the chairperson of the cooperative, Theopisita Nyiramahoro, the 584 farmers shared the money amongst themselves.

While speaking at the function, the minister said the vehicle was meant to help farmers carry their produce to market.

"The President was here a few days ago and he promised to send someone to this function. It is the reason why I am here. The President always fulfills his promises and he told me to tell you he has given you a lorry. The truck will be here in a few days,” she said attracting deafening applause.

"Work hard for development.The government is committed to supporting you.”

"The President has always urged you to work hard to develop the country. This must be your guiding principle,” Tugireyezu said.

Cocamu, which started in 2003 with only 30 members, grows coffee on over 414 hectares.

Nyiramahoro, who spoke on behalf of the farmers of the cooperative, said they were overwhelmed by the President’s support.

She said the farmers were happy to record the highest dividends in the history of the cooperatives.

"We have a President who loves his people to the extent of offering to transport their produce to the market. With this kind of leadership, the country’ economy will grow even faster,” she said.

She said that they will work hard to increase productivity.
