If you are a real creative artist please stand up and be counted. The Ministry of Sports and Culture (Minispoc) has embarked on a country wide headcount of creative artists. The exercise will cover artists in various categories including film, arts and crafts, weavers, photography, writing, music and sculpture among others.
The exercise officially commenced on November 17 in Kigali and will run up to December 5.
"For a country to achieve sustainable development it has to develop its cultural industry and all East African countries have already carried out a census of their creative artists industries,” said the executive secretary of Rwanda Academy of Languages and Culture, Dr James Vuningoma.
He was speaking during the press conference to launch the exercise, last week, at the ministry’s headquarters in Remera. The exercise will cost close to Rwf56 million.
Minispoc supports the creative industry which involves filmmakers, artists and art collectives. The ministry also sponsors a number of major annual festivals and events such as Pan-African Dance Festival (FESPAD), and a thriving music industry.
