Moroccan Salaeddine Mraouni has won today's stage four of the Tour du Rwanda (Muhanga-Rubavu) while Rwanda's great hope,Valens Ndayisenga, has come in fourth place but will retain the overall leader's yellow jersey.
Moroccan Salaeddine Mraouni has won today’s stage four of the Tour du Rwanda (Muhanga-Rubavu) while Rwanda’s great hope,Valens Ndayisenga, has come in fourth place but will retain the overall leader's yellow jersey.
Mraouni crossed the line in a time of 2h 46’ 25’ beating Ethiopia’s Buru Temesgen and Team Rwanda (Karisimbi)’s Jean Bosco Nsengimana and Ndayisenga who followed closely at the end of the 138.8km ride.
With half of the Tour already done Rwanda is positioned quite well, with Jean Bosco Nsengimana hot on the heels of the race leader, only 59 seconds behind him.
Eritrea’s Debesay Mekseb , the best climber in the Tour and the African number one, has dropped ten places from fourth to fourteenth.
Tomorrow’s stage five ride, Rubavu-Nyanza, is the longest of the Tour, a lung bursting distance of 182.4km. .
This is the first time that a Team Rwanda rider has held onto the yellow jersey for five consecutive days since the race was added to the international calendar by the International Cycling Union five years ago.
