Mukura Coach Godfrey Okoko’s bid to pull the southern province club from relegation starts with a stern test against champions and league leaders APR in the National Football League on Saturday at Kigali Regional stadium.
Okoko re-joined the club on a one year renewable deal last week after the sacking of Jean Baptiste Kayiranga and has been tasked to return Mukura back to winning ways.
"It is not the ideal match for a new coach or for the players who are eager to win their first game of the season but we will give everything,” Okoko said after yesterday’s training session stressing that he won’t put any unnecessary pressure on the team.
Mukura are second from bottom on the league table with just three points from 7 matches and face an in form APR side who top the league with 17 points. Okoko has called on the club fans to get behind their team in this difficult spell.
The Burundian cultivated cult status in the club when he guided Mukura to third place finish after languishing in the relegation zone in the 2011/2012.
