Rwanda Defence Forces (RDF) peacekeepers returning from their tour of duty in Darfur have been hailed for maintaining high levels of discipline which enabled them to successfully conclude their mission.

The last contingent of 134 troops of the 61st Infantry Battalion, commanded by Lt Col Fred Rwanyamugabo, arrived in the country on Thursday. They were immediately replaced in Darfur by officers and men from the 14th Infantry Battalion.

Brig. Gen. Johnson Hodari and several senior officers welcomed the peacekeepers home at Kigali International Airport. Hodari congratulated them for their dedication to duty and high levels of discipline during their tour of duty in the UN mission.  He urged them to maintain exemplary discipline.

"Our mission was successful due to the discipline and the guidance of our leadership,” Rwanyamugabo said

He added that Rwanda Peacekeepers worked closely with other multinational bodies under the UN mission to protect the population and had good interaction with local people.

He said they had left behind a good a "good image of our forces.”
