The Rwandan ambassador to Switzerland, Dr Francois Xavier Ngarambe, Tuesday presented his credentials to the President of the Swiss Confederation, Didier Burkhalter, at the Federal Palace in Bern.

Federal Chancellor Corina Casanova and other State officials were also in attendance. Amb. Ngarambe was accompanied by Moses Rugema, First Counsellor at the Embassy and Permanent Mission of Rwanda in Switzerland.

Ngarambe briefed Burkhalter on Rwanda’s transformation in the last two decades, especially in areas of governance and democracy, unity and reconciliation, as well as socio-economic development, according to a statement from the embassy.

"President Burkhalter commended Rwanda’s achievements and efforts to reconstruct the country following the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and pledged continued support in the future,” the statement said.

Both Burkhalter and amb. Ngarambe expressed their desire to strengthen the bilateral relationship between Rwanda and Switzerland.

"Given Rwanda’ s ambition to become a service hub for the region and a modern knowledge-based economy, and given Switzerland’s leading role in services, education, and scientific innovation, those areas will be the focus of our cooperation,” Ngarambe is quoted as saying.
