Last week, David Uwimana’s 14 runs helped the Apade stars reach the finals of this year’s UAE Exchange and Xpress money 50-overs cricket premier league that will take place on November, 23. But Uwimana is not only a gifted cricketer. He is a star in squash and academics.

He got 17 aggregates last term to earn a promotion to senior three.

According to his parents Saiid Mugabukuze and Elnestine Murikatete of Kicukiro, Uwimana started playing cricket while in primary four at St Joseph’s Primary School.

"Much as we are proud of him, we were also worried that he might abandon school for cricket,” Murikatete says.

However, Uwimana says his parents should not get worried because he is still working towards becoming a doctor.

The cricketer, who hopes to play for the national team, says he draws inspiration from Dr Thomas Muyombo, who is both a medical doctor and musician.

Uwimana will also be travelling to Bujumbura for the ICC U-17 competitions on Friday this week.
