The Rwanda U23 team face tricky Algeria today in the ongoing Africa Volleyball Championships at the Sharm El Sheik Gymnasium in Egypt.

Paul Bitok’s side started the tournament on a high after thrashing Libya 3-0 in the opening match on Friday before losing to Tunisia and hosts Egypt 3-0 on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

The Algeria team plays the quick balls and has good defence something that Bitok emphasised during Monday’s training.

Rwanda needs to win two matches against Algeria (today) and Morocco tomorrow to keep alive any hopes of qualifying for the 2015 World Championships which will be held in Brazil.

But for that to happen, Bitok’s boys will need Egypt to lose their games against Morocco and Tunisia or Tunisia to falter against Libya and Egypt.

If Rwanda lose both games they could finish bottom of the table. However a win in both games, and if Egypt and Tunisia also win theirs, Rwanda will be guarantee third position.

Right attacker Nelson Murangwa, who plays professionally in Japan, said they want to give their best in the remaining games. "We need to win the two games, we have to give our best and see what will happen for the Tunisians and Egyptians,” he said.
