SUBSITITUTE Djamal Mwiseneza scored a goal and assisted another to inspire APR to a 2-0 triumph over Espoir FC yesterday in the National Football League at the Kigali Regional Stadium.
The former Rayon Sports’ midfielder came on in the 54th minute and immediately made an impact on the game with an assist to winger Maxime Sekamana whose shot went past Espoir goalkeeper Andre Mazimpaka.
Mwiseneza then scored what will now be one of the best goals this season after converting a long range free kick from the centre line in the 71st minute to send the shocked APR fans into wild celebrations as the military side walked away with their fifth victory this season.
"The most important thing was to register three points and I am very happy that I was part of that,” a delighted Mwiseneza said.
Espoir’s Jacques Mulumbula Wilondja and Kassim Habyarimana missed clear chances in front of goal that could have helped Alphonse Gatera’s side get something from the game.
The Rusizi-based side is yet to win an away game this season but Gatera believes that the two-week international break is an opportunity to correct mistakes.
Elsewhere, Rayon Sports registered their third away win of the season after seeing off Gicumbi 2-0. New recruit Isaac Muganza netted a brace as the Blues maintained second position with 16 points, one point behind table leaders APR.
The Blues’ interim head coach Sosthene Habimana revealed that he is impressed with the victory that has kept them within one point of their archrivals APR.
Miamy Mbakiye scored a lone goal as Kiyovu defeated Etincelles 1-0 to maintain third place on the league log. Mbakiye is currently the league top scorer with four goals.
Newcomers Sunrise held Musanze to a goalless draw in Rwamagana with both sides tied on nine points but the Rwamagana based side is ahead on goal difference.
