The brain behind the show is Dieudonne Ishimwe. Besides organising the annual National Youth Entrepreneurship Debate Competition, Ishimwe also organises Miss Rwanda through his company, Rwanda Inspiration Back up Ltd. Talking to Society Magazine’s Dean Karemera, the youthful entrepreneur reveals why fashion is a form of communication.
How would you describe your fashion style?
My style is casual smart. Since the nature of my work is largely in the field, being casual but smart works for me. However, if I have to attend a formal meeting or event, I wear a suit.
What inspires your sense of fashion?
Comfort. I don’t dress to impress society but to be comfortable. I choose clothes that look good on me.
What is your favourite fashion accessory?
A watch! It demonstrates to people that you are a person of gravitas. Besides, I believe that I should not consult a cell phone to tell the time like students and young professionals. Instead, I believe time is important to justify a unique device to measure and manage it.
What’s your most expensive outfit?
I think it is a designer cashmere sweater I have in my closet but I don’t quite remember how much I spent on it.
What do you like on a woman?
I like a lady who dresses up in office suits, especially if she is in a corporate environment. It makes her look organised, competent and trustworthy. What type of footwear are you most comfortable with?
I like loafers. They are comfortable and match my causal style.
You can never be caught wearing…
Baggy clothes. I like well fitting clothes. What item do you treasure most in your closet?
A Louis Vuitton belt.Favourite cologne?
I like Pour Homme by Christian Dior and perfumes by Givenchy. They usually smell good.Any fashion tips?
I think people should understand that the way they dress is a form of communication. Before you talk to someone, the first message has been sent just by looking at the way you are dressed.
