Rwandan elite golfer Emmanuel Rutayisire tees off this morning at the Entebbe Golf Club hoping to replicate the form that saw him clinch the Rwanda Open in July.
Rutayisire who is part of a four-man team representing Rwanda will be up against hundreds of golfers from Burundi, Kenya and Uganda as Entebbe Golf Club celebrates 113 years of golf in Uganda.
Team Rwanda is comprised of three other golfers including Aphrodis Nyirinkwaya, Celestine Habineza and Aloys Nsabimana who bring in massive experience from the national team that won bronze at the East African Golf Challenge in September at the same venue.
The team manager of the Kigali Golf Club, Herman Rugwihimba said the team prepared well for the tournament and believes they will give a decent performance.
"They are familiar with the course so they should be in position to play well. The only problem is that the course is near a lake and sometimes it can be windy which affects the movement of the ball,” Rugwihimba said.
The event will be played over a three-day period with the main event played for two days (72 holes) while the subsidiary will be played over one-day in this case 18 holes.
