Police FC will face their first test as title contenders when they meet a confident APR side in the National Football League at Kicukiro stadium this afternoon.
Andre Cassa Mbungo’s side is seeking redemption after a surprising 1-3 loss to a revamped Marines side that also held APR to a 1-1 draw in Rubavu.
Mbungo who is missing the services of six first team players including striker Kipson Atuheire, Mwemere Ngirinshuti, Jimmy Mbaraga and Emery Mvuyekure has also been forced to deploy right back Jean Bosco Uwacu on the left flank.
However, the former AS Kigali tactician is confident that his side will bounce back and pick a result today despite having to rotate his players to feature in five games in two weeks; something he says has taken a toll on his players.
"This is characteristic of the league, you win some and lose some but we want to register victory against APR so that we move up the table. APR has a good strong team but we have to do our best,” Mbungo, whose side is fourth on the league table, said.
Meanwhile, APR will be without Albert Ngabo who was carried off the pitch in the second half following an incident where Rayon Sports’ Abouba Sibomana elbowed him.
The army side will also miss the services of Bertrand Iradukunda who is down with malaria. Right back Michel Rusheshangoga is also yet to be cleared by the medical team after he developed severe abdominal pains.
APR head coach Ljubomir Petrovic said, "We are missing some players but our target remains the same, we want to win against Police.”
The last time the two sides met was in August at the Cecafa Kagame Cup with APR seeing off Police in a tense 4-2 penalty shootout following a goalless draw after regular time.
