A Local NGO ‘Hope for Living’ supported by the National Electoral commission(NEC) is training 2016 residents from Rugenge and Gasabo District on how to vote the right candidate andto prepare them forin the forth coming parliamentary elections.

NECational Electoral Commission Cchairman, Prof. Chrysologue Karangwa, has in a phone interviewalso told The New Times that the commission has always worked with civil society to disseminate civic and voters’ education to the public.

"We have worked with various institutions like the army, police, universities, and other institutions to make sure civic and voters’ education reaches to the right people,” Prof. Karangwa said. on his cell phone.

The training proceeding at Kimironko, Kigali suburb, started August 18, and will end on September 6, 2008 according to Athanase Iyamuremye, legal representative of the NGO.

"Most of the participants are affiliated to our NGO and a few others. We discovered that our beneficiaries are ignorant about civic education and others are illiterate which can make them vulnerable to not makingmiss the right decision and choice when it comes to elections,” Iyamuremye said.

He also said Iyamuremye told The New Times that fromsince Aaugust 18, at least 112 people from 18 branches the NGO has opened in Kigali City have been undergoing the getting training each day from 18 branches the NGO has opened in Kigali City.

He also added that 38 people at 60 years and above attended these trainings. also included 38 aged people from the age of 60 years and above.

Iyamuremye also noted that the trainings were not only based on elections alone but also developmental issues like how to manage or start low income generating activities.

The three year old local NGO has been working with different government institutions to help vulnerable groups like prostitutes, drug addicts, orphans, people living with HIV/Aids, and the under-privileged Rwandan pygmies, to mention but a few.

Monday, August 25, parliamentary primary campaigns for all parties started in the country as the candidates tussle to win parliamentary elections mid next month.
