Police FC head coach Andre Cassa Mbungo will assess how good his team is as far as challenging for this year’s league title is concerned when he faces his former employers AS Kigali this afternoon in the National Football League at Kicukiro stadium.

Mbungo, who joined the law enforcers in July, will be out for not less than a win after dropping two valuable points against newcomers Sunrise FC in a 1-1 draw over the weekend in Rwamagana.

"We want to win this game and we shall give it everything. We were disappointed with our result over the weekend so we need a positive result,” Mbungo said after training yesterday.

However, he will face a tough test from an AS Kigali side that is currently being coached by former Amavubi coach Eric Nshimiyimana. The 42-year-old along with Mbungo are widely regarded as the best two coaches in the country.

Nshimiyimana has previously coached APR, Isonga and twice been in charge of AS Kigali. He was a decorated midfielder who was part of the 2004 Amavubi team that took part in the African Nations Cup.

He was also an assistant Amavubi coach for several years before taking over the top job in 2012 after the sacking of Ghanaian Sellas Tetteh.

Nshimiyimana received acclaim when he guided a youthful Amavubi side to the 2009 Cecafa final where they lost to an experienced Uganda Cranes side in Nairobi, Kenya.

Not much is known about Mbungo’s playing career but he is credited for nurturing most of the players that represented Rwanda in the 2011 U-17 world championship while coach of SEC Academy.

Mbungo also guided AS Kigali to the 2013 Peace cup trophy and also reached the Confederations Cup second round with the same team.

Although the league is in early stages, none of the coaches will want to drop points. Police is currently second on the league with 7 points while AS Kigali is fourth with 6 points.

Elsewhere, Marines host table leaders APR, the only side with a perfect record after three rounds of matches at the Umuganda stadium in Rubavu while Mukura will be up against Sunrise at the Mumena stadium in Nyamirambo.
