Rayons Sports was denied a third consecutive win in the National Football League yesterday after being held to a 1-1 draw by Musanze in front of a nearly packed Kigali regional stadium.
Captain Fuadi Ndayisenga opened the scoring for the Blues before Jean Marie Vianney Twagiramungu equalised for Musanze before the half time mark.
The equaliser raised confidence in the Musanze camp as the side mounted pressure on the Blues’ defense to keep goalkeeper Jean Luc Ndayishimiye on his toes.
In the second half, Musanze controlled the game with more attempts on goal as Rayon Sport’s defense seemed to collapse following short possession spells that brought frustration not just to the players but to the fans as well.
Both sides wasted numerous chances in the second half and a disappointed Rayon Sports interim coach Sosthene Habimana said his side need more strikers despite scoring 7 goals in 3 games.
"We failed to convert our chances at goal which is disappointing. We should not read so much in the 5-0 win over Isonga. We need 1 or two strikers,” Habimana who has been forced to use winger Peter Otema as a striker said.
Musanze coach Godfrey Okoko was not happy with his team’s performance blaming them for losing too many balls in midfield.
However, the Burundian tactician revealed that he was contented with the result considering the opposition.
This result leaves the Blues in third position, two points behind table leaders APR who defeated Etincelles 2-0 on Saturday and now lead the league with nine points. Police FC sits in second place with seven points following their 1-1 draw against Sunrise on Saturday.
