GOALS in either half by Bernabe Mubumbyi and Jean Claude Iranzi inspired APR to a 2-0 victory over Etincelles yesterday afternoon at Kicukiro artificial turf to go top of the National Football League standings.
Mubumbyi found the back of the net in the 37th minute after taking a long range shot from 20 yards to give the champions an early lead.
In the second half, Iranzi doubled the army side’s lead after slotting the ball into an open goal to give APR a comfortable lead in the 54th minute.
"I am very happy with the way we played today because the boys played extremely well. It is still early to talk about the title but we have to continue winning our games,” explained Ljubomir Petrovic, APR Coach.
Iranzi and Mubumbyi missed clear chances in front of goal in the second half that could have seen them each get a brace. In the 85th minute, Yannick Mukunzi’s shot on goal was tapped out by Etincelles custodian whose serenity was put to test.
A wasteful Etincelles side can only blame themselves for their second consecutive loss having been beaten by 1-0 by Musanze 1-0 in midweek.
Etincelles head coach Rajab Bizumuremyi blamed the loss on off field problems like poor organization in the Club Management. He said, "We cannot do much on the pitch when our management is not at par.”
Elsewhere, newcomers Sunrise held Police FC to a 1-1 draw in Rwamagana as the latter dropped points for the first time this season. Police now seats in second position, two points behind APR.
AS Kigali defeated Marines 3-1 to go fourth on the league table standings as Espoir registered a 2-0 triumph over Isonga who have conceded seven goals in the last five days.
Gicumbi picked their second win of the season with a 1-0 win over Amagaju while SC Kiyovu recovered from their 0-5 defeat Police midweek to thrash Marines 3-1.
