Rayon Sports yesterday went top of the National Football League table after humiliating Isonga 5-0 in a game that the Blues’ fans won’t be forgetting soon.

In front of a fully packed Kigali Regional Stadium, the Blues took an early lead through on-form Peter Otema who headed the ball past Isonga’s custodian Bonheur Hategekimana from a corner kick.

An attempt on goal by Otema in the 37th minute was tapped out by Hategekimana but the rebound found an alert Jean Paul Havugarurema who struck a clinical shot into the right corner to double the score before the half time mark.

In the second half, new recruit Frank Lomami scored his debut goal for the Blues as the youngest of the Lomami brothers that includes former Amavubi stars Jean, Andre and Marcel scribbled his name on the score sheet.

Striker Djihad Bizimana converted twice from set pieces, the first from an Abouba Sibomana free kick after a fumble in the penalty box and the second from 20 yards which stunned Hategekimana who was left shocked on the ground.

"I am very impressed with the result and also because scoring many goals gives us an advantage. The players did exactly what I told them because at half time we talked about our mistakes in the first half,” said Sosthene Habimana, the interim head coach of Rayon Sports.

Unlike his counterpart, Isonga’s head coach Innocent Seninga expressed regret at his side’s discipline in set-pieces. He said, "We have young players who are all teenagers and still learning a lot about football. We were let down defensively but it is something we can work on.”

Seninga whose youthful side has an average of 21 years emphasised that he will take his team through the basics of defending set pieces and also work on strengthening them mentally.

The newly promoted side held Etincelles to a 2-2 draw on Saturday and are 7th on the league log.
