After cruising to a 2-0 win against Marines on Saturday, SC Kiyovu’s early form will be put to scrutiny this afternoon when they take on Police in the national football league at Kicukiro stadium.
"The first three matches are usually the same despite the opposition because teams are trying to get used to competitive football again. I have trust in my players and believe we shall win against Police,” Kiyovu head coach Ali Bizimungu said yesterday.
Bizimungu who replaced Burundian Gilbert Yaounde Kanyankore boasts of vast experience having coached Atraco, Rayon Sports and twice at Kiyovu before returning this season.
Against Police, Bizimungu faces an ambitious side that has made their title intentions clear with a 1-0 win over Gicumbi in their opening fixture.
Elsewhere, former Amavubi head coach, Eric Nshimiyimana now in charge of AS Kigali, will be up against his former side APR in what is expected to be a closely contested game at the Kigali regional stadium.
The reigning champions who launched their title defense with a 1-0 win over Musanze on Sunday will be hoping to build on this victory.
Much is expected from the military side that will be seeking continental glory as they return to the Caf Champions League after a year’s absence at the hands of Rayon Sports and what a better way to do so than to shake off local opposition in a convincing manner this early into the season.
