Editor, While I agree that parents should have some input in ensuring the success of the schoolchildren feeding programme in the 12-Year Basic Education schools nationwide - even though most of our people live from hand to mouth (or from garden to mouth) -, for now, the government should pick up the bill.

While I agree that parents should have some input in ensuring the success of the schoolchildren feeding programme in the 12-Year Basic Education schools nationwide – even though most of our people live from hand to mouth (or from garden to mouth) –, for now, the government should pick up the bill.
I think it is not too expensive to afford so long as this food will be for our kids and not for some teachers to sell on open market.
Secondly, I don’t have kids in school but I can afford to donate ten tonnes of maize each year for five years. So let the Ministry of Education open up a store (for whomever is interested to help) at each school and an account in the bank for some Good Samaritans among us who don’t have gardens but can afford a little more than an ordinary citizen who can’t feed his entire family.
