MUHANGA — Police in Shogwe, Muhanga district has arrested a man who allegedly defiled his one-year old daughter.

Police said that the suspect, Theoneste Twagiramungu, 35, a resident of Shogwe sector, allegedly committed the crime early last month and the case has already been transferred for prosecution.

According to sources, Twagiramungu spent hours fondling the child which has resulted into permanent damage on the child’s private parts.

Mothers in the area have subsequently condemned the rampant cases of defilement.

At least three cases were last week filed at the Nyamabuye Police Station, bringing the number to about 100 in the past three months.

On August 28, another minor child was allegedly raped by his uncle (Frican Nyandwi) in Tyazo cell, Muhanga sector.

Nyandwi was caught red-handed sexually abusing the child who was left under his care.

The child’s mother, Vestina Mukashaka said, "I was breast feeding my youngest baby only to find the accused raping my child in broad day light. I immediately called for help as he tried to escape.”

Nyandwi was arrested by local leaders and residents and is currently being held at Nyamabuye Police post.
