Rwanda Paralympics team departs for Beijing today ahead of the 29th Paralympic Games set for September 6-17 in Beijing, China.

The national Paralympics team departs this afternoon aboard Ethiopian Airlines to Addis Ababa from where they will connect to Beijing.

The team is composed of 800m Paralympics star Jean de Dieu Nkundabera, coach Eric Karasira, team doctor Jean Pierre Nkuranga and National Paralympic Committee president Dominique Bizimana.

The other official on the team is NPC Secretary General/Chef de mission Celestin Nzeyimana, who’s already in Beijing as advance party.

After Rwanda’s failure to claim any medals at the recently concluded Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, the country is now pinning her hopes on Nkundabera.

Nkundabera shocked the world when he won bronze four years ago in Athens and will be aiming for more in Beijing.

Nkundabera will have five days to acclimatize to the Beijing weather before starting his campaign in the Men’s 800m T12 on August 8 at the Bird’s nest stadium.
