Rwanda has been pooled in Group B alongside England, Pakistan and Zimbabwe ahead of the 2023 ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup scheduled to take place from 14 to 29 January 2023 in South Africa.

The groups for the tournament were announced on Friday, September 16.

Rwanda’s U19 women secured the ticket to the ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup, after beating Tanzania by six wickets in last week’s final of the just-concluded Africa qualifier in Gaborone, Botswana.

According to a fixture schedule released Friday, September 16, by the International Cricket Council (ICC), Leonard Nhamburo’s young women will play their opening game against Pakistan on January 15, 2023.

They will face Zimbabwe in a second group game slated January 17 before concluding the group stages with England on January 19.

Meanwhile, Australia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and the United States are pooled in Group A as Indonesia, Ireland, New Zealand and West Indies are in Group C while Group D comprises India, Scotland, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The top three teams from each group will progress to the Super Six League stage, where teams from Group A will play against Group D and Group B will compete against Group C.

The semi-finals will be played on 27 January, at JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom, with the final taking place at the same location on 29 January.

A total of 16 teams, including 11 full ICC Members and five Associates, are participating in the inaugural edition of the tournament, making it one of the biggest ever ICC events, with 41 matches set to be played across 15 days. They were pooled in four groups.

Rwanda joins fellow newcomers Indonesia, as first-time ICC World Cup participants at any level.
