Four ICT start-ups have been selected for business mentorship at the Tigo technology incubation centre, think.
Tongai Maramba, the Tigo Rwanda general manager, said the winners were chosen from 150 applicants across Africa.
They are Rwanda’s TorQue, which delivers channel management software for wholesale distributors in the beverage and telecom industries and Beliaa, an Egyptian that developed a mobile application, which uses GPS to assist road users.
Others are Cribpark from Nigeria, which operates a platform for real estate matching, home design, architecture and connects homeowners to an array of goods and services and Ghana’s PollAfrique, a research platform for Africa that allows respondents to participate in incentivised surveys through a number of online channels.
The firms won $15,000 (about Rwf10.2 million) each in funding and access to Tigo networks across Africa. They will also get mentorship from business and technology leaders and acquire skills on how to develop businesses.
They will begin the six-month accelerator programme next month.
Think, the Kacyiru-based technology incubation centre, supports leading tech start-ups seeking to create digital solutions for Africa.
Tongai said Rwanda provides a great environment for the start-ups to work in, thanks to significant investment in the country’s ICT infrastructure by government.
