RAYON SPORTS have signed forward Peter Kagabo, also known as Peter Otema, on a two-year deal after the former Rwandan international was released by Police FC.
News of Kagabo’s signing was confirmed on Friday by Rayon Sports newly appointed spokesperson, Aimee Emmanuel Niyonsabye.
"It’s important to strengthen our team in preparation for a tough campaign next season. We have signed one of the best players in the country and believe he will help us achieve our target in the new season,” he told Saturday Sport.
Niyonsabye added that the 2013 champions are keen to win at least one trophy in the 2014/15 season, which starts next Saturday.
Kagabo will play for his new club using his original name; Peter Otema. He also played for the defunct Atraco FC.
Last month, Rayon said it had also signed two other former Police FC players; striker Jerome Sena (widely known as Sina) and Fabrice Kasereka (Moussa Mutuyimana) although the latter insisted he will need to first agree personal terms with the blues.
The three are some of the dozens of players who are said to have acquired new names and Rwandan citizenship, some of them under questionable circumstances, with several having already represented Rwanda at different levels.
Meanwhile, Niyonsabye announced that Rayon Sports will play their final pre-season match against Gicumbi FC this Saturday at Kigali Regional Stadium.
Recently, the Nyanza-based club signed five young Rwandan players namely; Frank Lomami (SEC Academy), Kevin Ishimwe (Isonga FC), Emmanuel Imanishimwe (Aspor), Bernard Uwayezu (Bugesera) and Isaac Muganza (SEC Academy), all on two-year contracts.
