TODAY COULD be a day of joy for Police Handball Club should they bag maximum points against reigning champions Gicumbi when the two teams clashin a crucial league game in Gicumbi.

With 40 points from 12 wins (they lost once) this season, Police need just three points to be crowned national league champions.

Gicumbi, who are third on the log with 34 points, one behind second-placed APR, have three games in hand against two for both Police and APR.

As it stands, all the three clubs still have a chance to win the title. A loss to Gicumbi means Police will have to wait for their final match against UR-CASS on October 25.

A win attracts three points, two for a draw while the losing team gets one point.

But Police coach Assistant Inspector of Police Antoine Ntabanganyimana reckons it will not get that far owing to their impressive record against the reigning champions.

"They [Gicumbi] are a good team but we have prepared ourselves well to snatch, yet again, three points. We have beaten them in all other tournaments this season and we hope to do it again this Saturday,” AIP Ntabanganyimana said.

 Should they beat Gicumbi, it will be their third national league title in fourth years and their 12th since 2003.
