The Special Chamber of the High Court this morning postponed the trial of four individuals accused of a litany of charges including treason and the creation of a criminal gang.

The accused are Cassien Ntamuhanga, Jean Paul Dukuzumuremyi, Agnes Niyibizi and Kizito Mihigo.  

Presiding Judge Claire Bukoba adjourned the trial to November 6 after the lawyers representing Cassien Ntamuhanga and Jean Paul Dukuzumuremyi requested that they be given more time to prepare their client’s defense. Although the other co-accused and their lawyers were willing to continue proceedings, the judge ruled that they could not be tried alone because their case was linked. On September 12, the trial was postponed after Ntamuhanga and Dukuzumuremyi, appeared in court without lawyers and said they needed to seek legal representation.  

The four were arrested in April, accused of working collectively or individually to plot against the Government.
