Rwanda dominate regional Taekwondo Ambassador's Cup

Rwanda dominated this year's regional Taekwondo Ambassador's Cup staged at Amahoro indoor stadium over the weekend. The tournament attracted close to 250 players from five countries namely; Uganda, Kenya, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and hosts Rwanda.

Rwanda dominated this year’s regional Taekwondo Ambassador’s Cup staged at Amahoro indoor stadium over the weekend.

The tournament attracted close to 250 players from five countries namely; Uganda, Kenya, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and hosts Rwanda.

Mozambique and Tanzania federations were also represented at the two-day event but did not compete. Rwanda had the biggest entry list of 191 competitors. The competition was sponsored by the Korean Ambassador to Rwanda.

Competitions included; the U-14 (boys and girls), U-17 (boys and girls) category, senior men and women categories respectively.

Rwanda claimed the top spot in the overall classification ahead of Burundi, Kenya, DR Congo and Uganda in that order.

Gatenga Taekwondo Club (Rwanda) emerged champion in both the male and female senior categories, Team Burundi were awarded the competitiveness trophy, while Kenya and DR Congo shared the fair-play trophy.

According to the Rwanda Taekwondo Federation’s secretary general, Placide Bagabo, the tournament went ‘perfectly well’.
