TOP SEED Jean Claude Gasigwa claimed the inaugural Bralirwa Tennis Open singles title yesterday in Rubavu District.

The 31-year old clinched the four-day tournament after defeating youngster Olivier Haguvimana (9-5) in the final.

According to the tournament rules, a match is played in one set, unlike the normal tennis competitions where a match is for two sets or more.

Havugimana had reached the final after ousting Damascène Munyaneza in the round of four while Gasigwa brushed aside this year’s Rwanda Liberation Day tourney winner Mathieu Uwizeyimana in the semi-finals on Saturday.

By press time, the semi-finals in Men’s doubles competition were yet to get underway.
