THERE WERE mixed fortunes for City of Kigali representatives at this year’s East African Local Authorities, Sports and Culture Associations (EALASCA) Games that climaxed on Saturday in Kampala, Uganda.

This sixth edition of the regional multi-event competitions kicked-off on September 30 and ended yesterday at Namboole Stadium.

Rwanda’s capital has been represented by six teams competing in men’s football, men and women’s volleyball, men and women’s basketball as well as traditional dancing competitions.

Gasabo District won the women’s basketball title beating off competitions from Kampala, Nairobi and Bujumbura while AS Kigali men’s football club finished second behind KCCA of Uganda.

Kicukiro District retained the men’s basketball crown and Indatirwabahizi cultural dance troops won the title.

Kigali Volleyball Club (KVC) were the worst performers from Rwanda after finishing in third position behind Nairobi and Kampala’s KAVC.

By press time, the competitions’ organising committee was yet to announce the overall classification, but initial indications put hosts Kampala at the top with Kigali come second, Nairobi third and Bujumbura fourth.

Last year, Kigali finished overall top at the fifth edition staged in Bujumbura, Burundi.
