Head coach of the national women’s football team, Grace Nyinawumuntu, is a fashion enthusiast
Also coach of AS Kigali women football team that has won the national women’s league five consecutive times, Nyinawumuntu spoke to Society Magazine’s Doreen Umutesi about her fashion sense and why it is influenced by her profession. Excerpts;
How would you describe your dress sense?
I dress casually because of my line of work. In most cases, I am dressed in sports gear. On weekends I love casual clothes although on Sundays when going to church, I strictly wear a skirt and blouse with a matching jacket.
What’s your favourite clothing item?
I love t-shirts, tracksuits and sneakers.Where do you shop for clothes?
I mostly shop when I travel. I don’t have a specific shop or boutique around town. When I see something that suits my taste, I buy it. As for the tracksuits, I get many of them from the different sports tournaments that I participate in.
What do you consider when shopping clothes?
The outfit has to fit and if it’s a skirt, it shouldn’t go above my knee. For the tracksuits, I only buy Adidas. They have to be original. As for tracksuit colours I always go for blue and white, black, green or yellow. I love green and yellow tracksuits because they are colours of my team AS Kigali.
What is your favourite fashion accessory?
I love earrings but not the dangling ones. I prefer wearing small hoops or studs.
What is your favourite clothing item on a guy?
I love a guy dressed in jeans, a fitting t-shirt and casual shoes.
What’s your favourite scent?
I’m not a perfume person but I like Lacoste deodorant maybe because it has a mild scent.
What is the most expensive fashion accessory that you own in your wardrobe and what led you into buying it?
It’s a suit that was given to me by the AS Kigali women football players that I coach. It was a present they gave me to thank me for my efforts. They gave it to me last year.
Any fashion advice?
My simple advice to women, especially in sports, is to dress up decently. I don’t like the way girls wear sagging trousers or jeans, its something I see that is done by most girls in sports.
