KICUKIRO - Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) and Ligue des Organisation des Volontaires au Rwanda (LOV-Rwanda) have launched a project that will help secondary school leavers to get jobs.

This was announced on Thursday by LOV-Rwanda President, Bonavanture Manirakiza during the closure of a two-day annual meeting held at St. Francois d’ Asise Hall in Kicukiro District.

The meeting brought together all local and foreign volunteers from all corners of the country, and aimed at evaluating and implementing new project plans that will promote voluntary services in the country.

Manirakiza explained that the need to help these students get jobs will contribute a lot to their daily livelihoods.

"In most cases, you find these students redundant after completing their secondary education yet there are jobs they can do and earn a living,” he said and added that VSO was at the helm in supporting LOV Rwanda to achieve this cause.

Manirakiza further explained that these students will be helped to get jobs basing on their sections.

"A senior six leaver from the Sciences section will get what to do and that one from Humanities too,” he said.

During the meeting, participants exposed obstacles that have delayed their voluntary activities. Among the issues mentioned, were neglecting their contribution to the society and lack of support from government, among others.

Volunteers also advocated for working with the media in mobilising the population to become volunteers.

LOV Rwanda was formed in November 2005 with nine voluntary projects but has grown to more than 19 projects.
