There are so many campaigns going on in Rwanda and beyond, appealing to boys and men to get circumcised. A number of reasons explaining the importance of the surgery are given but some people are not yet convinced and they too have their reasons.

This week, we bring you the views of students of Riviera High School on the subject.

Intwari Ibrahim

I fully support circumcision because of its role in reducing the chances of getting HIV/Aids. People should embrace it because health experts have carried out research that indicates the advantages of circumcision.

Tyson Muvunyi

Circumcision is a good way of protecting yourself from HIV/Aids. However, I don’t believe any one should be forced to circumcise, it should be voluntary. For babies its fine to have them circumcised because they are too young to make decisions.

For a very long time, many societies have been carrying out circumcision. Some even used to do it to girls but mainly due to ignorance. But with information today, we know circumcision is good for hygiene.

The practice of circumcision is good.In fact the Jews used to do it since the ancient times and every boy should borrow a leaf from them.

Circumcision is good because it reduces one’s chances of contracting the HIV virus and other infections. I believe more men should be encouraged to circumcise. The problem though is that most people say it’s painful.

I believe if most people were circumcised, it would reduce the rate at which HIV spreads. People who are not circumcised stand higher chances of contracting several infections. Even the health programmes we listen to say so.

Circumcision is painful but I think it is worth doing. In fact I would advise my brother to go for it. In a fast changing society, it’s necessary to move with the times. People who do not adjust depending on the findings of the latest research are likely to get STDs.

Chopping off the fore skin saves you a lot. The pride of every human being is in cleanliness and circumcision promotes that very well. I wish all babies could be circumcised a few days after birth since it becomes hard to do it when someone grows up.

I got circumcised when I was already grown up. It is painful during those first days after surgery but heals quickly. When you circumcise, you feel very comfortable and while taking a shower, you do not have to struggle very hard to clean your private parts. I pray everyone goes for that surgery.

My marriage partner must be circumcised. You can’t claim to be clean when you are not circumcised. Circumcision is not only for Muslims but every man. How I wish every new born baby boy was circumcised.
