RWANDA Football Federation (Ferwafa) has released revised fixtures for the upcoming 2014/15 national league scheduled to kick off on October 18.
The league which was initially supposed to kick off on September 20, was pushed forward to allow completion of investigations into cases of players who hold double identity.
The league fixtures were revised because matches will be played week days and weekends so that the season ends as originally scheduled. The first round will end on January 11 with the second round kicking off a fortnight later and is expected to climax at the end of April.
On the opening day, former champions Rayon Sports will face Amagaju at Kigali Regional Stadium; Etincelles face new league entrants Isonga at Umuganda while Espoir will host Mukura in Rusizi.
On Sunday, October 19, defending champions APR FC host Musanze at Kigali Regional Stadium; Gicumbi take on Police FC; SC Kiyovu host Marines at Mumena while AS Kigali travel to Rwamagana to take on newly promoted Sunrise FC.
The first week day action will be played on Wednesday, October 22, with Police facing SC Kiyovu at Kicukiro while AS Kigali host APR at Kigali Regional Stadium.
Marines play Sunrise in Rubavu; Mukura host Gicumbi at Kicukiro; Amagaju take on Espoir in Nyamagabe; Rayon Sports and Isonga face-off at Kigali Regional stadium while Musanze will host Etincelles at Musanze stadium.
Biggest match
The biggest match of the season which usually attracts many fans, APR against Rayon Sports will be played on November 2 at Amahoro stadium on match day five.
Last season, the military side beat the Nyanza-based side 1-0 thanks to Charles Tibingana Mwesigye’s strike. But Rayon Sports avenged with a 2-1 win in the second round at Kigali Regional Stadium.
Midfielder Djamar Mwiseneza, who has since signed for APR and left-back Abouba Sibomana scored for the blues while striker Michel Ndahinduka scored APR’s goals.
The other key match will pit title hopefuls Police FC against AS Kigali on October 28 on match day four when Police coach Andre Cassa Mbungo will be against his former employees who are now under former Amavubi coach Eric Nshimiyimana.
On match day six, APR will play away to Police at Kicukiro while Rayon Sports will be up against Espoir at Kigali Regional Stadium.
On day eight, Mukura will host APR at Stade de Kigali on November 22 while Rayon Sports will take on SC Kiyovu at Amahoro stadium on November 23.
The league will then take a break to pave way for the national team’s participation in the 2014 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup slated to be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from November 27-December 11. The league will then resume on December 13.
